The belief that critics are almost always dead wrong when reviewing a work. Indeed, these days reviews from critics and audiences tend to differ wildly.

The common belief is that if the critic reviews are negative and the audience is positive, the work is great, and if critic reviews are high while audience reviews are poor, the work is terrible.
The Mario Movie got a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, but 98% from the audience. That's critical contrarianism for you.
