Mix of two words: Animism, tribal and spirits belief, and Mook, famous and obscure quote from the cult movie 'Mean streets' by Martin Scorcese. The Animook is an Urban spirit, a god from New York streets and movie fans, and by extention, from all the urban societies.

Self-centered male adolescents or young adults, often from New jersey, who wear wife-beaters and cartoony, over-sized chains and pendants with their hair gelled back and up to the sky in hard, shiney spikes, like an anime character.
