When someone gets offended by something, on behalf of people from another race/culture, even though people of that race/culture aren't actually offended by it in the first place.

If more than five people have answered the question before they asked you or you asked them, it's appropriate.
Brenda: *Asks question*
Emily: how many people have answered this?

Brenda: 8
Emily: oh okay, then it's an appropriate question.

Cultural appropriation does NOT mean white people cannot enjoy any culture outside of their own.
It does NOT mean that people are not allowed to wear certain articles of clothing or participate in ceremonies that come from other cultures. The biggest difference between cultural appropriation and its opposite cultural APPRECIATION is whether or not there is respect and understanding of the culture you are adopting from. Cultural appropriation is when cultural symbols are watered down from their original meaning to the point where there is no longer any respect for the symbol it comes from.

This is NOT an attack on white people. It is not some "SJW" term created to punish white people. It's something that is defined by ignorance and a lack of respect. Interestingly enough, because of the existence of ignorance and a lack of respect of other cultural symbols there has been some desire to ignore the problem that cultural appropriation creates. This can all be solved with the understanding that, for example, wearing a bindi does not automatically mean cultural appropriation so long as you know what a bindi is, why it exists and Indian culture, and what it represents when you are wearing it.

There is a huge difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation, and rather than immediately assuming every cultural mixture is one or the other, it's best to be critical and see if the situation provides respect and honor to the culture in question.
Josefina: I'm not saying that ANY white guy wearing a shirt with Mayan weaving patterns is cultural appropriation, I'm saying that the weaving design you're wearing is traditionally worn by women during a specific ceremony.

Josh: So I'm a bad guy because I didn't know that? Now I'm just some racist white guy?

Josefina: No, I don't blame you for not knowing, and I never called you racist. I blame Urban Outfitters for copying a design without permission and selling it to you on the false pretenses that it's "authentic" without even using the right design for a young male to wear. Where's the cultural identity? Where's the respect? Urban Outfitters doesn't care about the fact Mayans who receive little money selling their handwoven works, but they will copy their designs for a T-Shirt that will give them endless profit.

Solange: Yeah, this is just like that white guy that went to India to throw a giant wedding party. What a jackass!

Josefina: Actually, he went to India because he appreciated the culture and wanted to experience one of their most sacred ceremonies. Many Indians were involved and it turned out to be a great experience for him. THAT'S not cultural appropriation. Some people take activism to the extreme and apply cultural appropriation to EVERYTHING, which isn't the point. That is just as bad as the people who don't believe that cultural appropriation exists.

Cultural Appropriation is the adaptation of customs, practices, ideas, etc. of one people or society to another's in their own view or version.

This is a one of the phrase's no popular dictionary's will give an accurate definition on anymore in fear of being canceled and will often be changed every few months depending on the trend.
This word is a combination of appropriation, which is to set aside for one's own use or adaptation, and culture.
Cultural appropriation is a way for people around the world to create new versions of things we love such as new music, movies or clothing's.
This phrase is often used in place of Cultural Appreciation when individuals wanted to cancel others or divide society for their own agendas since , without knowledge of the real definition, cultural appropriation sounds more offensive than cultural appreciation. "How dare you appreciate my culture!" does not sound offensive and most people will enjoy, encourage, and feel loved by others appreciation their culture.
This is one of the words people like to add "often to a minority by a majority" to fit the trends of modern society.
Korean's display much Cultural Appropriation by using much of western's society's culture of media, clothing, tv series into their own adaptation to create K-pop, Karama's, etc and share it with the world. In return the world is very happy.
