An acronym for Two-Spirit/Queer. Two Spirit is a term used by some Indigenous trans, non-binary or otherwise gendered people whose genders do not fit into the colonial gender binary. It is not a term for non-Indigenous individuals, because it is in direct reference to gender roles or identities that exist in someone’s Indigenous culture. This cultural knowledge only exists through 100+ years of resistance to ongoing colonial genocide, and the survivance of 2SQ individuals through it all.
“I’m 2SQ, I use they/them.”
“Some colonizer tried to tell me they’re 2SQ–I said, ‘yeah? Who claims you, cuz?’”
