First used in Kurt Vonnegut's book, Breakfast of Champions, this phrase means roughly, "to take a leak."

"Sometimes somebody would say in his presence, 'Excuse me, I have to take a leak.' This was a way of saying that the speaker intended to drain liquid wastes from his body through a valve in his lower abdomen.

And Trout would reply waggishly, 'Where I come from, that means you're about to steal a mirror.'"

An evasive maneuver, intentional, dangerous, and often illegal in a motor vehicle. Steals are made in order to save time, to gain a more favorable position, or just because you are impatient. Steals must be completed without causing an accident, bodily harm, property damage, and without getting the attention of law enforcement. (Completion of a steal is followed by a fist bump if you are in the company of others).
Making steals would include making an illegal left turn during rush hour traffic across a 3-lane highway without causing an accident.
