A skilless band headed by Kurt Cobain. Nirvana is the definition of "overrated". Kurt sucked at guitar, and his vocals, although easy to like, were crap.

The worse part is that there are teenyboppers that think Nirvana is so undergroud and cool, and advirtise that they love nirvana/kurt cobain everywhere they go.

Marc: Omg nirvana is so kvlt.

Matt: No, Nirvana sucks ass, Kurt Cobain cant play guitar worth shit.

Marc: But it doesnt matter, Nirvana is so und3rground. Im cool by liking them, unlike the idiots that like mainsteam pop punk.

Matt: Nirvana is about as mainsteam as porn pics of your mom. Your just as bad as the other teenyboppers that like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and Greenday.

Try listening to real music, such as Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Racer X, Old Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Dragonforce, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Opeth, Pantera, Testament, Arch enemy, Black Label Society, Nile, SRV, etc.

Nirvana 

1. A band that hipsnter teens will name whenever they're trying to sound cool or edgy by making it seem like they have "good" taste.

2. To be honest they're actually a pretty decent band but they get a lot of hate because of people like example #1. Kurt could write catchy fun songs to sing along to but at the end of the day he is still pretty low on the list of "grunge" frontmen at the time whether you rank it by singing or guitar playing, but again, they're a decent band.

And stop quoting Smells Like Teen Spirit because you think it makes you look 3dgy, it doesn't.

A great grunge band, who, like it's name, is musical nirvana when listened to right. Featuring Kurt Cobain's raw emotional vocals, simple yet intricate guitar playing, Krist Noveselick's rumbling bass, and Dave Grohl's skin pounding drums, they created a template that was often imitated, but never duplicated.

However, Nirvana's music is often used very wrong. Long established as an essential and easy band for angsty whiny teenagers, Nirvana's music, however, can be bliss. Kurt Cobain didn't want his audience to wallow in their own sorrow. He wanted to use his music as a catharic experience, the type of experience that let's you defeat your own problems through music. Unlike angsty bands like LInkin Park and Slipknot, Cobain wanted to use his music the right way: an experience that makes you come out strong and wanting to confront life.

Do yourself a favor, use Cobain's music right and, just maybe, you will find your day looking much brighter and better.

Nirvana 

Ultimate proof that appealing to teen angst and how being a martyr gives you insanely overrated musical talent and massive staying power. Nirvana was simply a decent grunge band, just like Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, and no better, but because Kurt blew his head off now we have a group of massive posers that think by liking Nirvana that makes them connoisseurs of music.

Kurt Cobain himself said he didn't want Nirvana to become a band that every dipshit that thought that they liked "real" music enjoyed and had t-shirts and other shitty merchandise. His music actually criticized on SEVERAL occasions people like today that think too highly of Nirvana or take them too seriously. He sayed he wanted Nirvana to stay as a small, only at most a semi-popular band that only a few people true to the genre would actually enjoy. Now highschool punk fucks are raping the wishes of the very lead singer they tout so highly of.

Band that brought rock back in the early 90's. First off people dont like Kurt Kobain because he is dead. He didnt like his popularity and hated his song "smells like teen spirit for the popularity it brought him" He didnt trick anyone to like him. In fact his most known album "Nevermind" was almost named "sheep" to make fun of people who ran to the stores to buy what the world told them was good. No you cant make better riffs and lyrics dude or you would be a famous dead guy. Sure the bland split of years ago but Jimmi hendrix and alice in chains are broke up to due to the death of there lead singers but this will not change the imprint they left on the music world.

After reading the other posts, i would like to make my own point because honestly, some of those things= mental retardation.

1. Nirvana (the rock/grundge band) is probably one of the greatest rock bands in the 20th century. Led by mentaly and physicly tormented vocalist and guitarest kurt cobain, Nirvana rocked the main stream music for nearly 5 years.
Kurt Cobain has recently won the title of richest dead rockstar. He allegedly commited suicide at the peak of his fame. He was tormented sence childhood with the divorce of his parents and the way his parents acted as he grew up. This led ot many other problems including him living on the streets for almost a year at the age of 15. He was also tormnted with a severe stomach problem which is one of the reasons why he got hooked on Heroin. Cobain was alwas one to abuse substances and he did nothing about his addiction until his child, Frances Bean was to be born when he finally tried to quit. It didnt work. He could only go 10 minutes of sobriety before feeling withdrawl. His suicide was surrounded by strange things like he had so much heroin in his system that he couldnt have even had time to take the needle out of his arm before passing out, his shoes were on and he would have need to pull the trigger with his toe, and his suicide note had several strange things to it aswell. But, Courtney Love, who people think killed him, was half way across the continent at the time and at a rehab center to try to get off the heroin that Cobain got her addicted to. The shed that Cobain was found in, was locked from the inside. He found a way to kill himself, that is that.

there was signs of his suicidal future at the age of 12 when he would talk of suicide, rape, and other things normally not spoken of with such calmness.

Contrary to what people think, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, and Come As You Are are not the only songs that Nirvana put together. On there first album Bleach, the opening song About A Girl found its way onto the Greatest hits album self titled Nirvana. Other notable songs include All Apologies, In Bloom, You Know Your Right (also known as Over the Mountain, Moutain Top, and several other names), Heart Shaped Box, Rape Me, Polly, Drain You, On A Plain, Stay Away, Pennyroyal Tea, and several covors of The Meat Puppets and David Bowie on the MTV UnPlugged album.
And for all of you who hate MTV (I am included), there was a time when artists like Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Alice In Chains, and even Bob Dylan found there way there.

The band consisted of Dave Grohl on drums who is now in Foo Fighters, Krist Noveselic on bass, and of course Kurt Cobain.

2. Nirvana is a Hindu state of purity. It is reached when the soul is at peace with god and the universe and only when this is reached, can the person stop the process of reincarnation and proceed into the after life. One who has reached this stage is called a Guru. I personaly do not believe that but it seems like a very peaceful thought. Nirvana literally means at peace. (the reason why Cobain named the band that)

1. Nirvana is one of the best bands of the 20th century and one of the best Grundge bands. the only other grundge bands worth mentioning would be Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. but somthing that Nirvana has that they dont is obvious pasion.

2. Nirvana is the ultimate stage of inlightenment and peace. It is when a person is at one with the universe and god and can then proceed to the after life. It's Hindu which is the 3rd largest religion in the world. the only thing i can connect to this would be the best high in the world. probably mixing heroin, pot, and some designer drug together to form the ultimate compound.
