A sense of apathy and lassitude brought about by either societal or personal stagnation. Akin to languor, but more closely tied to existentialism and post-war Europe.

As seen in the film L'Avventura, by Michelangelo Antonioni. As characterized in post-war European literature.

A very deep and generalised boredom with one's life.
Some high-schoolers may think they are suffering, because they're "bored and do not want to do their homework"...Yes well it's deeper than that, so no you're not suffering.

Comes from the french word ennuyeux, meaning, boring/annoying

Ennui 

It's that "I can't believe THIS is supposed to be life-affirming"
ennui that makes you regret your tired existence.

Characterized by a deep sigh of dissatisfaction, it's that miserable feeling you get post-coitus where you realize you spent countless hours convincing yourself and some other person that this was going to turn out well.

"What's that feeling you get after sex?"
"What, you mean ennui?"
"Yeah that's the one."

Ennui 

An inside out character representing the feeling of "boredom". The word "Ennui" is actually French for boredom also. Those who are aged around 13-17 may relate to her character since throughout Inside Out 2, she was mostly lying on the couch on her phone, taking no nocide of any of the other emotions when trying to grab her attention, then once she realised her phone was missing, that's when she went into total hysterics and it was the fastest she even moved in the entire movie.
