Railhawk

A mythical giant bird from the central NY/upstate NY region that nested and lived in the trees alongside rail roads. Legend has it that when the railroad was originally being layed down Railhawks were guardians of the workers and whenever any of the workers would cheat, steal or do something wrong against another man the Railhawk would swoop down and screech so loud he'd turn into dust.
The legend of the Railhawk is story secretly passed down for generations in my family. He once saved my great grandfather's life when a new group of workers came to town and tried to hurt him. The Railhawk flew down and screamed and they just disappeared.
