Intelligent indie hip-hop artist and head of Strange Famous Records. Writes from the heart and doesn't pull any punches. A concept that John D. Doh is apparently clueless about.

An artist that addresses critical issues and cares about his fans.
Sage Francis knows what the fuck is going on and what is wrong with things right now.

Independent Hip-Hop Artist who breaks all ground in poetry to further break the vines off our country and it's perception towards ideas, thoughts and situations expressed through his tracks. Incredibly skillfull, an asshole in audio but a class act in concert, a bearded crusader of wordplay for emo kids to finally relate (to hip-hop) to without painting their faces is mascara. Above all else, one of the most intelligent humans beings to grace the microphone, and truly deserves the title of Mover of the Crowd (MC).

Climb Trees, from Portland Oregon.
"So different (so they say), different like a platypus, analytical analyst. By the end of this record I'll make sure all of y'all know who Sage Francis is."

One fucking awesome man! That pretty much sums it up. I mean, I could go on to say that he is the king of spoken verse and political, poetic, in-your-face rap. He's intense like camping is in tents. He writes personal narratives as well as general and specific social issue songs, but they're always in first person, which gives it that hardcore edge. Runaways, Climb Trees, Inherited Scars, Slow Down Gandhi, and Broken Wings are probably my favorite (but not necessarily his best) songs. And whoever said he was an armchair activist needs to read his biography before talking like an ignorant fucktard.
sage francis says:
"I'm up on a soapbox yelling into megaphones/killing hard rocks using carcasses as stepping stones/I had to promise I'd stop holding my marches the day that Chris Colombus got crucified on golden arches/but my pedestal was too tall to climb off/in fact that's the reason for the high horse/and from up here I see marines in hummers on a conquest/underdogs with wonderbras in a push-up contest/all for the sake of military recruitment/it felt like kent state the way they targeted the students.

Sage Francis is an old and bitter hip-hop artist who has built his career on an intellectual facade and self-righteous lyrics that preach what he doesn't care to practice. His fan-base is comprised of naive armchair activists, teenage elitists with low self-esteem, and impressionable hipsters that thrive on diets of myspace and indie folk music. His "strange fame" has begun to dwindle back into obscurity as of late. I'm sure it doesn't help that he burns bridges with the most talented people he has worked with due to his narcissistic personality.

Sage Francis is your dad. You are attracted to him and repulsed at the same time. Whatever the case, a part of yourself originated in his testicals so please respect the cock. Since 1996, Sage Francis has embarked upon an impressive and successfully independent career based on lies and integrity. He won two major, national emcee battles (2000 Scribble Jam, 1999 Super Bown Battle) and this was before Eminem played a role loosely based on Sage Francis in 8 Mile. Francis was also a big component of the Poetry Slam scene before Def Poetry Jam stole his ideas and allowed Mos Def to appear as if he had a genuine interest in spoken word. He doesn't. Neither do you. Since 2000, Sage Francis has toured countless times around the world with fellow weirdos Atmosphere, E&A, Anticon, Buck 65, Grand Buffet, Prince Po, Mac Lethal and others. Multiple albums were released on his independent label Strange Famous Records, but Personal Journals was his first commercial release on Anticon Records in 2002. His next commercial release was with his group the Non-Prophets, released on Lex Records in 2003, and it was supported by a 40-city tour aptly titled "Fuck Clear Channel Tour." Francis recieved a lot of label attention due to his political nature, best captured on his timely release of 2001's Makeshift Patriot, which resulted in him being the first hiphop artist to sign to legendary punk label Epitaph Records. This spring he graced the cover of Urb Magazine and you can expect movie directors to take notice of his chiseled frame in no time. "The next time someone plays me in a movie it will be me," Francis told reporters after his performance at the DNC in Boston. His Epitaph album, A Healthy Distrust, will be released on Epitaph Records in February of 2005.
