This originated during the 2017 NBA Finals. When the Cleveland Cavaliers went down three games to nothing in the series, many fans were saying "Cavs in 7" in hopes of the Golden State Warriors blowing the lead as they let go of a 3-1 lead in 2016.

The phrase is now used by many to mock the Cleveland fans who believed they would win four straight and win back-to-back championships.

When a professional athlete makes any sort of controversial decision, you'll most likely find sports fans burning jerseys. Usually, it occurs after a player leaves a team in free agency. Jersey burning is more frequent in the NBA and NFL than the MLB.

Sports fans have been doing this since the late 2000s; however, a more notable ubiquity was in July of 2010 when LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat in free agency. Many also burned Colin Kaepernick's jersey in 2016 after he refused to stand for the national anthem. These are just some of the many occurrences.
