the alabama of the northeast is the nickname given to central PA. members of the media from outside of the state percieve pennsylvania as a 'swing state'- one that could go either left or right politically. this is far from true. PA is actually a state that his 2 distinct regions. on the two ends of the state you have the urbanized areas, which are traditionally moderatally liberal. this includes philly, allentown, scranton-wilkes barre in the east and pittsburgh and erie in the west. these (good) parts of PA are generally a mix of center-right 'union democrats' and true northeastern liberals. however, central PA is by far the most conservative area in the Northeastern US. this area is called an 'alabama' because it's known for having a lot of rednecks (due to the fact that this is part of appalachia).
central PA is the alabama of the northeast. damn, there are a lot of rednecks in that region.

one of the shittiest schools in america. a land grant university that was originally designed to be Farmer U (yeah, and aggie school). however, it now likes to hide that image and call itself an elite college. despite being a state school, it has high tuition and (for some reason) difficult standards for admission. this second fact is a total joke, because it's easy to get in if your not smart but no somebody. most attendees are excellent drinkers and parties. the school is located in the middle of nowhere in central PA (nicknamed 'the alabama of the northest')

in sports, penn state is ridiculous. in football, the pride themselves on the old glory of a pompous, grouchy coach. they used to be hugh rivals with the highly superious Pitt, but the school got scared and dropped Pitt from the schedule in '01. in basketball, they are a total joke.
'penn state sucks' are the unofficial last words to the Pitt fight song.

at penn state, they sacrifice virgins in exchange for football success.

The Clarks are a rock band from Connellsville, PA, a town located about 60 miles from Pittsburgh. All of the original members- vocalist Scott Blasey, guitarist Robert James, bassist Greg Joseph, and drummer Dave Minarik- are still involved. A very traditional guitar driven rock band, with excellent beats and introspective lyrics, The Clarks have been a favorite in Pittsburgh for years, but have had trouble finding a market outside of the Pittsburgh-Cleveland-Buffalo area. The band was formed when members met at Indiana University of PA in 1986. The record their 1st album 'I'll Tell You What, Man' in 1988, which included 'Help Me Out,' a hit on Western PA college rock stations. The Clarks got their break after releasing thier eponymous 2nd album in 1991. 'Penny On The Floor' was picked up by WDVE, Pittsburgh's biggest rock station, and soon became a Western PA hit, setting the groundwork for the band's successful future. Album number 3, 'Love Gone Sour, Suspision, And Bad Debt,' following 1994. Pittsburgh classics 'Cigarette' and 'Treehouse' were included on the album. Following this albums regional success, The Clarks signed a national recording contract with MCA and appeared to be headed to the big time. When The Clarks released their 4th album, 'Someday Maybe,' in 1996, it appeared that national success was on the horizon. However, MCA was going through a financial crisis at the time and the album recieved little promotion. The Clarks, along with many bands, were cut from the label in 1997. However, they still had much local success in Pittsburgh with 'Mercury' and 'Stop' and 'Caroline.' After taking some time to regroup, The Clarks released what was prehaps their greatest work. Their 5th record, 2000's 'Let It Go' captivated audiences. 'Better Off Without You' and 'Born Too Late,' 2 songs that easily could have had national appeal, dominated Pittsburgh radio, while the title track 'Let It Go' and 'Chasin' Girls' also gained regional success. This album allowed The Clarks to spread the fan base. While the band could still only be heard in Pittsburgh for the most part, Cleveland, Buffalo, and Central PA rock stations began spinning songs from 'Let It Go.' Their 6th album, 'Another Happy Ending' from 2002, featured the powerfully emotional 'Hey You,' which actually gave the band some very, very minor national airplay, mostly on indie shows. But none the less, this single got the band's name out there, while it and the other popular tracks, 'On Saturday' and 'Boys Lie,' kept up interest at home. The band's most recent and 7th studio album, 'Fast Moving Cars' continued the string of local hits with 'Hell On Wheels,' 'Shimmy Low,' and the title track 'Fast Moving Cars.' In 2006, a greatest hits compilation was released, which included another single 'Bona Fide.' While national fame has always eluded them, the Clarks have been rocking Pittsburgh for 20 years. While they may not be one of the biggest rock bands in the world, the are deffinatly one of the most pure!
The Clarks are the type of band that are able to make a spectacular performance no matter what the venue. I saw them in front of a huge crowd at the Three Rivers Regatta in Pittsburgh and at the little State Theater in Uniontown PA, and the shows were equally good.

kia is the name of an awful little korean car manufacturer. unlike their korean rival hyundai, which has made significant improvements to their vehicles over the past 2 decades (although kia is in better shape than korean car maker daewoo, which could only handle the us market for 3 years), kia's quality remains relitively low. the cars have gotten better since being first introduced to the states in the early '90s, and they are well know for their great warrenties. but build quality and reliability where they should be. also, kia interiors have a strange smell, which is acredited to the packaging in which they are imported.
kia makes a bunch of smell, mediocre cars.

This channel is considered to be a total joke by all other repubtable news channels like CNN, MSNBC, BBC, and the network news shows. The reason? The news is supposed to be presented to viewers without spin, so that they can draw their own conclusions about a story. Granted, depending on an individual reporters political views, there will always be some slight bias. But Fox News presents the news with an obvious and overpowering conservative bias. And what's funny is that they call themselves 'fair and balanced.' What a crock of crap! To informed viewers, it's easy to see through the personalities who use choice wording to make conservatives appears strong and just, while making moderates appear weak and liberals appear irrational. This is not news. Fox can even spin stories that aren't politcally based, such as turning reports on Katrina into a politcal stomping ground. This channel is home to some of the biggest assholes on TV including Britt Hume, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Rilley. But the worst of all is Ann Coulter, who I'm pretty sure should be diagnosed with a mental ailment. The problem with this channel is that it's easily able to infiltrate/brainwash many non-politcally active viewers.
Fox News is only fair to conservatives and is in no way balanced. If you disagree with far-right politics, they'll shut you up and put you down. You wanna see the news? Turn on Brian Williams on NBC, at least he acts like a real newsman.
