To gire is to be employed. G is the letter in between H and F, so, gire is right between hire and fire in terms of someone's employment.
Alfred: "Hey Bob, how is your job going at factory?"
Bob: "Oh, I am being gired."
Alfred: "What does that mean, is that like you're being fired?"
Bob: "No, it just means I still work there."
