Spheroidivitus covers a range of facial injuries including a split lip or broken nose caused directly or indirectly while playing basketball.

Symptoms include hideous swelling, purple mottled discoloration, nasty headaches and a new found respect for how hard a person's head or elbow can be when it connects with your lip, nose, cheek or other favorite facial feature.

Treatments include RICE -- rest, ice, compression and elevation -- along with anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen. There is anecdotal evidence alcohol helps thin the blood and reduce swelling, but this is considered apocryphal and may be related to another temporary disease known as "beer goggles".
Mike took a forehead to his lip and would up with a severe case of spheroidivitus.
