Nigjer is a slang term for pyrite, also known as fools gold. In the 16th and 17th century it was first discovered and was quite popular. The word is pronounced "nig-jer" with the "j" being spoken heavily. The word was coined by the first people who discovered pyrite, because nig is also a word similar to the word "nug," nuggets of gold. "Jer" refers to the texture of the rock and is a common way to describe rocks with a rough texture.
