The
co-opted form of 'Recovery', typically delivered and implemented by mental health services. Neorecovery is distinct to the original ethos of recovery as conceived and articulated by mental health survivors and service users, which was service
user led, democratic, humanistic and based on collective values. In contrast, neorecovery is provider or service delivered, controlled or designed, typically paying lip service to meaningful and democratic
user involvement or so called 'co-production'. Neorecovery reflects the current
neo-liberal political context of
society and mental health services in its approaches and practices, with its emphasis on individualism, 'responsibility', 'dependency' and
work as a health outcome.

College prospectus and its neorecovery ethos. Courses included '
work will set you free' and 'understanding your economic burden on the state'.
