lonely fingers

When a tobacco smoker is having a craving and the forefinger and middle finger ache to have a cigarette in between them. When a person has lonely fingers they will often hold a pen or a straw in place of a cigarette.

"Why are you holding your pen that way?"

"Because I have lonely fingers, is it almost break time?"
