clipping my wings

A phrase that is synonymous with being tied down or held back. When a bird's wings are clipped, they are unable to fly.

Me: Hey babe, I'm thinkin about getting that part-time tutoring job at the university.

Her: Hell no you're not gonna be tutoring any girls

Me: Damn you're clipping my wings woman
