bumpgrade

The act of trading up an item for something else slightly better, even though what you have is perfectly good.

A small bump in features, performance or design that usually includes a hefty repeat purchase.

1. "When I saw the new iPod Nano had video recording, I knew I needed a bumpgrade from my old one".

2. "I was sick of always charging my old cell phone, so instead of buying a battery, I did a bumpgrade to the next newer model".
