The steady state theory was an alternative theory proposed to The Big Bang theory. It was proposed by a group of atheists who disliked The Big Bang theory because, in their view, it "incorporated religious concepts into physics" by its suggestions that the universe was not eternal (as the steady state theory would have us believe) but had a beginning (and therefore creation).
