GPSvertising

Location based marketing technology promoting goods and services offered by local retailers that are in close proximity to recipient’s actual location at the time of the offer. By tracking recipient’s mobile device in real time, automated ad servers deliver custom, limited time offers as text, voice or video directly to recipient’s mobile phone or PDA. By combining vehicle navigation technology with an advertiser’s willingness to pay, the potential exists for recipient’s vehicle to actually be guided along a specific route that will bring it within closer proximity of advertiser's business location.
“At first it was sorta cool getting text offers every time I drove within a block or two of the donut shop, but now I wish they would just stop with the GPSvertising! And what I really want to know is how these guys hacked into my patrol vehicle nav system anyway?”

GEOvertising

(Pronounced GEO-vertising)

GPS enabled devices receive real time, promotional, time sensitive offers from local retailers as the holder of the device passes within a short distance of the retailer's store location.
Salesperson: "GEOvertising, my friend, is the wave of the future! Now if you'll indulge me for just a moment please... simply look out your showroom window and consider the potential impact to your casket sales bottom line if only you had the ability to put your powerful message in the GPS enabled device of each and every man, woman or vehicle navigation system that approached within a two block radius of this fine business establishment."

Retailer (seeing the salesperson out): “Try the donut shop next door."

Noun. Portmanteau of "street" and "road": it describes a street, er, road, built for high speed, but with multiple access points. Excessive width is a common feature. A common feature in suburbia, especially along commercial strips. Unsafe at any speed, their extreme width and straightness paradoxically induces speeding. Somewhat more neutral than synonymous traffic sewer.
Did you see what the traffic engineers want to do to our street? They're going to turn it into a total stroad!
