"and furthermore" syndrome

Share definition Flag
Refers to the abrasive and horridly-destructive mindset that is all-too-often adopted by someone with authority/influence (parent/guardian, schoolteacher/principal, policeman/judge, owner/caretaker of a large and/or fancy estate, etc.), whereby he blatantly/impatiently disregards common sense or basic compassion regarding the everyday necessities/difficulties/incapabilities of the less fortunate/affluent/physically-fit mortals in the world, while at the same time needlessly and unjustly "throwing his weight around" or "flexing his muscles" in an additionally-injurious manner. So, not only will he refuse reasonable requests to assist/ease the burdens of a timid "underdog", but he will then "add insult to injury" by irritably/gruffly PILING ON one or more ADDITIONAL agonizingly-arduous stipulations/restrictions onto the trembling help-seeker, so that this unfortunate wretch will now be even WORSE off than he was before!
One should be extremely wary about asking someone of substance/power for advice or assistance, since many such "upper crust" individuals tend to be afflicted with "and furthermore" syndrome... not only may they flippantly brush off your request for help, but they likely will then also grumble, "And furthermore --- I don't want you to do such-and-such anymore", or "I am sick and tired of your not doing such-and-such like everyone else does, so you're to start doing so immediately", which of course will just make you burdened/agonized all the more, especially if the retracted privilege is something that you vitally need just to survive or remain sane.

The opposite of closerless.

Iam "Furthermore, some of the things I've said clearly bother you. And that's understandable. At times that is kind of the point of saying it. But people (at least recently) have been doing the thing I described. I'm trying to determine the source of the phenomenon and I feel like actionable information is being withheld. I walked into a store the other day and someone said aloud 'that's a demotion.' Seems innocuous, correct? But that is word for word a thing I blurted out to the guy that I had initially suspected as the source of the phenomenon I'm talking about. So, for context, this guy was a former millionaire who lost everything due to drug use and I believe his background had something to do with computers. This is someone who the worst of my bad behavior in the past would have effected indirectly. So there's motive, opportunity, and know-how. Wouldn't take much to make a site. People aggregatin information online about people that are reprehensible isn't unheard of. I can actually list some examples. Charlie Zelenov (who is clearly a schizophrenic) and a guy that goes by the gamertag Low tier god. People will rip the streams of the latter (because he's a gaming streamer) and repost his worst moments for the purpose of mocking him (or he does it to himself for the purpose of generating additional revenue on his content by making additional channels). The former is a guy who challenges random people to spar and then batters them
inappropriately to inflate his imagined boxing record. Deontay wilder beat him up publicly. People post content about him on Facebook. So, the thing I'm talking about does exist in the world. The difference would be that you can find either of these guys with a Google search. Also, comedy show guy (after my assertion that the guy who made the shit I wrote into a movie makes reference to the fact that everybody told him that it seemed like it was written by someone other than himself) quoted the interview that I was talking about where the guy said it was 'a character study.' I mean, it could be both but I really don't think so man. You want to talk about something bothering you; that shit would bother you. An then there is writer guy making an overt reference to how I described my DnD character (on the same comedy show, no less) and after I brought it up another channel I watch made reference to DnD for the first time ever. I've watched hundreds videos of this guy's content. What are the chances that he would reference the game (DnD) for the first time ever but only after I reference the reference that writer guy made? It's just bizarre. Is hard to believe that is all in my head. Or WAS all in my head UNTIL NOW and I just can't tell the difference. But if I can't tell you the difference, why was I not getting the reference sensation before 3 weeks ago (or so)? Something has clearly changed. Furthermore."

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.

- Harold Koh
