A chuckle, in a particularly gleeful and breathy manner.

The term is believed to be a portmanteau of "chuckle" and "snort," coined in the poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll, featured in his famous novel "Through the Looking-Glass," much like the term "galumphing."
