A blend of "empathy" and "thief," describing someone who hijacks others' emotions,
particularly sadness, claiming them as their own and then demanding comfort from
the original sufferer. This emotional greed manifests as an intrusive takeover of feelings, where the Empathief insists "all my feelings are mine, and all of your feelings are mine too," leaving the true victim drained and
obligated to console them.
"When I told Lisa about my
breakup, she turned Empathief, sobbing louder than me and
expecting me to
comfort her through my own pain."
