Insinuendation

The act of asking a question in a seemingly innocent or genuine manner, but with the intention of embarrassing, humiliating, hurting, injuring, or wounding the other person.
1. When the teacher asked the student if she was sure she had done her homework, it was an insinuendation meant to make her feel embarrassed.
2. His insinuendation about her weight was meant to make her feel bad about herself.
3. The insinuendation about her intelligence was a cruel way to make her feel inferior.
