Silksanity

Derived from the fandom of Hollow Knight: Silksong and a portmanteau of insanity, it’s a term used to describe the deterioration and unrest of a fandom over a franchise with little to no updates or new entries over a long time. Especially if said update or release was teased or hinted at before the long period of silence and inactivity, letting people know that it’s a possibility in the first place.

A visible symptom of silksanity is in the memes a community creates. If people joke about the update coming or not, desperately pray for the update to either finally arrive or be officially announced dead already, troll others about the wait time (see Silkpost), etc. those are clear signs that the fandom now prioritizes discussing the wait time and the unreleased content rather than the contents of the already existing franchise, and that the silksanity has properly taken hold.

Once a fandom reaches true silksanity, it’s nearly impossible to fully get rid of it, even if the update does arrive, because the memory of the long wait time has thoroughly imprinted into the fandom’s cultural zeitgeist by that point, and has become a meme in its own right.
1) I’m so glad that Deltarune chapters 3 and 4 are finally out! The fandom was going absolutely silksane by then, so maybe now we can calm down a bit. But then again, the silksanity never fully leaves once it takes hold…

2) There has been a long wait since the last update log for my favorite game has come out, and the desperate memes the fandom is making nowadays are obvious signs we’re descending into silksanity. The mods have already added a silkpost flair version of our own, even!
