A criminal organization that originated in Italy, particularly in the southern part of the region and Sicily. The mafia has always been much less common in northern Italy as the government is more well run and wealthy there. To be a made member or the highest ranking in the mafia you have to be 100% Italian. Other ethnicities can be employed as associates.
Mafia: The mafia was a result of a poor government system in southern Italy where people's only job and income was farming. Because of this many people resorted to crime.
