when you can explain it so someone else; to completely "know"; to be able to explain a subject just like the person who explained it to you; having complete clarity on a particular subject or discussion; no gaps in the comprehension of a subject; the flip side of 'understand'

When I was a student, I understood tai chi. Now that I am a teacher, I really have a better overstanding.
