gray jay

Canadian slang for "lumberjack"

Named after bird of the same name. In the old-time lumbering days the Jay would visit the lumberjacks in the northern forests of Canada. In turn, the lumberjacks shared their grub with it (dubbing the bird Whiskey Jack).
Back in the day those gray jays didn't need chainsaws to fall a tree. True grit, boy, true grit.
