This is a music genre which is very popular in Bulgaria. It is also known as Pop-Folk. The 'chalga' has many things in common with Turkish and Serbian music, but can also include some elements from Bulgarian folklore. Anyway it has typical oriental elements (inharited from the times of the Ottoman Empire which ruled the region for about five centuries), combined with a modern pop sounding.

This type of music is generally listened at parties and people who have drunk lots of alchohol enjoy it very much. This can be a logical explanation for the senceless or even vulgar lyrics in many such songs, performed usually by gypsies. This genre creates songs for entertaining the masses (and probably many people do entertain themselves listening to such senceless songs). Many people lebel those senceless songs 'chalga' without realizing that 'chalga' is actually the type of music, which is typical for the whole Balkan region, and believe me, there are songs of high quality with nice lyrics (usualy about love relationships, searching for the 'one' and etc).
here is one nice 'chalga' song.
translated from "Kamelia - Ima Lyubov" (There is love)
...
there is love, there is love
and only love remains
and this love, and this love
gives me a new life

only the love warms your heart
and it starts beating madly
only love, just love
and nothing else matters

and one senceless

translated from "Orkestar Trastenik - Topcheto"(the Trastenik Orchestra - The Little Ball)
INFO: the song lyrics are based on a popular game amongst Bulgarian gypsies which includes a little rubber ball and 3 caps. The performer starts rolling the ball very quickly under the caps and mixes them. Then a player has to choose a cap and wins if the ball is under the cap. While mixing the caps, the gypsie performer says: "here it is, here it is not, where is the little ball". This game is also popular with lots of tricks and cheats by the performer (which includes hiding the ball while mixing, so that all the caps are empty)

here it is, here it is not
did you see mister where is the little ball
here it is, here it is not

I give gold , I give money, I give gollars
just to see the little ball
