Brahmanism is a religious tradition within the modern category of Hinduism, which developed out of the Vedic religion in the Gangetic region and is based on the scriptural authority of the Shruti and Smriti. It is named after Brahman who is regarded as the supreme god. Brahman in Brahmanism is like Jehovah in Judaism or Allah in Islam. It is different from the Brahmin class. The main feature of Brahmanism is the hierarchy that categorises all human beings into four hereditary classes.
