Kissing his own ass 

The act of boasting about one's attributes or accomplishments, usually before a sizable audience. Self aggrandization of the highest order. Usually carried out in the absence of underlings who would normally carry out such a task for the self ass-kisser.

"Professor Smith spent half the lecture talking about his double doctorate and the 39 papers he wrote."
