The point around 8 months of age when a male chicken begins sexual maturity, during which both protective and dominance instincts kick in. Characterized by sudden episodes of violence not previously observed.

Often the point where a rooster is labeled 'bad' or 'mean' by owners not atune to the life cycle of a rooster and resulting in culling of said rooster.

Your rooster isn't mean, he's just going through rooberty.
