Underhang

In wood framing construction, underhang refers to the maximum distance a header or lintel can fall short of the vertical load bearing member (referred to as trimmer or jack stud) and still transfer the load through the furring member in shear.
A 39-inch Rhino Header can be installed in a 43-inch rough opening because it has a 2-inch UNDERHANG.
