Dark Electro is a branch ebm - industrial that is dance oriented and often has 4/4 trance beats as the basis of the composition. The most distinguishing characteristic of the genre is the specific type of distortion used on the vocals, making the sounds very harsh and abbrasive sounding. Popular artists in the genre would include DJ Puppeteer, Grendel, Hocico, and Tactical Sekt.
