Bulldogging

To save something brand new and not use it for a very long time in order to preserve its newness and not wreck it.

I am bulldogging my new pair of shoes until there is sunnier weather, I don't want to get them dirty.

I bulldogged that food for way too long and then it got stale and moldy.
