A didem (from Latin didus 'did' and emu 'em' ) is a mythological creature. Sometimes they are referred to as water nymphs.

Oh for a Didem of fire, that would ascend

The brightest heaven of invention,

A kingdom for a stage, princes to act

And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!
