Being cut from track is the ultimate shame. Track teams rarely have cuts. So actually being cut from track implies that one is a fail of the highest caliber. To be cut from track is an excellent reason to become an hero.
Kgor: I ran an 8 minute mile, yaaaaay!

Coach: Kgor, everyone else ran under 6 minutes, I think we'll need to let you go...

Normal human being: Jesus, that Kgor got cut from track! He has failed where others have failed to fail before!

Kgor: *Stalks freshman, then becomes an hero*
