short rows

The final, quickening, hurried thrusts just before a male ejaculates during intercourse. Also used to describe any activity that is near completion, when patience and attention to details might be overpowered by the urgency to finish the task. (From farmers who work in fields where some rows are 1/2 mile long or longer, corners or other obstacles are a welcome relief when you spend all day long behind the wheel of a slow traveling tractor driving in a straight line.)
It's been a long drive, getting up before the sun to get an early start, but we're in the short rows now; I can see the flashing red light on top of the water tower!
