A snake is someone who informs you that they have not done something in order to gain an advantage. These are sincerely the worst creatures of the planet, even Argon from the Harry Potter testifies to this. There are many reason someone can be classed as a snake:
1. They want to gain an advantage over you
2. They want to see you fail
3. They see you as a threat so try to eliminate you
4. They aren't true friends
5. They want to do better than you
6. They just generally don't like you and aren't nice people
