A derivative of 'That'll do for it' - as in, just the gadget you need to complete a task.

Phonetically 'That'll doofer it' - shortened to 'doofer'.

It is commonly used today as a lazy substitute for the name of an item you can't remember. A wotsit, thingy, thingamajig etc.
"Could you hand me that doofer?"

"I need a doofer to mash potatoes easier"
