To name the puppy

Verb, meaning to claim something as yours and declare emotional attachment before it may actually be appropriate to do so.
"Well, we've already named the puppy Scooter, so now I'm too attached to give him up even though Mom's allergic."

A: "Can you tell me about this new guy you're seeing? What's he look like?"
B: "Well, I would, but I don't want to name the puppy, I don't even know if it's going anywhere with him yet"
