Holding my own

Something you tell someone when you think everything is going to be okay, but you could end up metaphorically in the bottom of a lake like the SS Edmund Fitzgerald.

You can replace "my" with "our" if you're talking about your group's fate.
Person 1: Hey how's it going?
Person 2: I'm holding my own.

trombone sewerslides

A euphemism for trombone suicides used by some schools because the school/district feels using the word suicide in casual conversation is insensitive.
Often shortened to just sewerslides.
Band director to class: Trombones. Your going to learn how to do trombone sewerslides and do them at the football game without offing your classmates.
Student: Why don't we say suicides?
Band director: Because the office doesn't like it when we use that word.
