An outdated medical term for transgender that is considered problematic by the trans community, as it falsely implies that one needs to medically transition in order to be a "real" person of the gender they identify as.
Person 1: "Isn't that lady-friend of yours a transsexual?"
Person 2: "Transsexual is actually an outdated term that's considered offensive, so I'd appreciate it if you used transgender or trans instead. It isn't really our business unless she deems it necessary to let us know herself, anyways..."

Transgender person who has had some form of medical intervention to alter their primary or secondary sex characteristics, usually with hormone replacement therapy, sexual reassignment surgery, facial feminization surgery, a combination of those or some other gender affirming procedure.
