Used to describe a person who is extremely patient and resilient. It is not to be confused with "The patience of a saint," which is usually (but not always) associated with being a pushover.
The phrase comes from the character Job in the Bible, whom Satan practically used as his personal plaything. But his faith never faltered despite the numerous contrived misfortunes that plagued his life.
People who work in customer service or in educational settings must have the patience of Job if they can still function as people after so long.
