When someone is in denial that reality is more complex than what it may at first seem, and even if they are shown evidence of this, remains in willful denial.
Jim: "I think defunding the police would reduce all criminal activity because police are the true criminals"
Joe: " I don't know man, maybe re-structuring the procedures of current police activity and instigating harsher penalties for out of line police could work instead"

Faking stress to get out of one’s commitments. Also used as an excuse to back out of an agreement/commitment .
England cricket team cancelled their tour of Pakistan because they were spooked by the early departure of New Zealand.
