‘quarter-caste’ is someone mixed race, they are 25% of one race and 75% of another. They are a generation of mixed race that are not Black or White, they are
respected by fellow mixed race people because they go through similar experiences. Ethnically educated people can see their mix usually. Some think all mixed people are brown with an Afro, but that is a lack of education. The majority of mixed people will look Hispanic (Mexican looking, etc.) there is no stereotype, mixed people can take either gene, the majority of mixed people will have features like: dark, thick, long, curly hair, green/blue eyes, short noses with not much structure, olive skin (brown in hot climates.) They
experience doubters because they may look more ‘Hispanic’ which means they can fit into Spanish speaking countries just based off their looks. Some will even say they look ‘White-passing’ which is
offensive to somebody who is partially another race. ‘quarter-caste’ is a term that isn’t used in recent years as it is
offensive, the terms ‘biracial’ and ‘multiracial’ are more
appropriate.
There are advantages/disadvantages:
Advantages- they can tell who is racist, they are accepted by their fellow mixed people, they are educated about race.
Disadvantages- they get people telling them they aren’t mixed, they don’t have many people who relate to what they mentally go through, they are
uncomfortable in certain situations. ‘quarter-caste’ people are mixed race, they are part of the mixed community.
Someone who isn’t mixed: “You aren’t Black enough to be
mixed race.”
Mixed person: “well I am quarter-caste which is
mixed race/
ethnicity, I can’t help if I don’t look Black enough, I am a mix of multiple backgrounds/countries/cultures.”
Someone who isn’t mixed: “sorry it’s just you look more Hispanic so I didn’t realise it would hurt you even if you are partially Black, but don’t take offence to it.”
