A word whose contemporary defintion began in the north shore of Sydney. Ooft is used to describe a literal or metaphorical "hit below the belt" as well as a great deal of shock or surprise. Ooft can be a reply to a harsh insult. It is often used upon seeing an attractive person, as it is a hit below the belt to realise one's inferiority to said person.

That weird barking a dog does when it doesn't quite let a full bark go, but makes a kind of woof. Sounds like they are saying "Ooft".
