A heated argument concerning a topic that the general population typically cares little about, such as string theory, Crispin Glover films and Zelda. Can often be found on Internet message boards.
Joe: "The Sega Dreamcast was clearly the most underrated console system of all time."

Jim: "Have we forgotten about the 3DO, my friend?"

John: "I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to interrupt this nerdument."

nerdometer

nerd-o-meter /nərd-‘α-mət-ər or ‘nərd-o-‘mit-ər/ pl. –s n. E nerd + Gk –meter MORE AT measure (2010): an instrument that measures the degree to which a person or persons perform or engage in analyses of unusual topics (ie. science fiction, mathematics, etc) that are likely to be regarded as pointless, uninteresting, impractical or just fucking weird.
