Rapid deceleration of a spacecraft or other projectile due to impact, possibly unintentional, with a planetary surface. Compare to aerobraking. The unfortunate confusion between Imperial and SI units caused a larger-than-expected atmospheric entry angle, resulting in a catastrophic lithobraking approach.
