An excellent operating system that is more stable than Microsoft's Windows. Good for server use, but not practical for the average (aka home or gamer) user since it isn't compatible with most programs.

Notably used by either people who do know what they're doing, or immature idiots who think they're "l337" because they spited "M$" out of money (and seemingly wrote 90% of the definitions on this word as well).
Linux is a good OS, but it's most vocal users are hypociritcal idiots.

GNU/Linux is about empowering users to a choice. Linux is a kernel (guts of an OS). GNU/Linux is the kernel with GNU tools to form a complete OS.

GNU is a software revolution that is open and free in every since of the word. The code (software) is open to anybody to download and/or modify as long as you share the modifications with others. This is an open concept like university research. Everybody benifeits from the colaboration of others. In a closed enviornment inovation and quality are stifiled.
heep://www.urbandictionary.com uses Linux and very glad to see they know what they are doing by using php.

The Operating System that POWERS urbandictionary you assholes.

Go on to www.netcraft.com
Then look up "www.urbandictionary.com" on the web server search. I see SEVEN linux servers, and 2 netbsd/openbsd servers.

I was able to install Mandrake Linux on my computer without any help, BECAUSE I RTFM! Like when I first installed WINDOWS!!

All the people who said shit about linux either:
1) Heard about it from Microsoft
2) Heard about it from SCO
3) Heard about it from some anti-linux group.
4) Saw a friend use Slackware
5) Saw a friend use the terminal.
6) Tried using Slackware as their first distro.

Linux is a great computer for all uses except crashing on you.

Ubuntu, Suse, Mandrake, and MEPIS are great linux distros that offer excellent user friendliness WITH GRAPHICAL TOOLS. So you don't even HAVE TO USE THE FUCKING TERMINAL!!

Only thing you can't do is run Windows stuff, like WINDOWS AIM, and WINDOWS EXPLORER, so don't even try doing stupid ass stuff.
Dumbass:: Linux sucks because there's no aim client.
Me:: Dumbass, AIM FOR LINUX, GAIM, KOPETE, LICQ, and NAIM!

Linux is simply a word used to get OS Fanboys to spark a religious war.
Linux Fanboy: Linux, enough said
Windows Fanboy: MS rules and Linux sucks because no one uses it
Macintosh Fanboy: I'm cooler than the both of you because my OS is shiny

A free, stable OS that will do the job of $1200 worth of Windows Server.
People who run Linux are doing the world a favour by giving Microsoft a reason to get their head out of their ass and actually write code.

A highly stable OS designed for the most elite of computer users. Apparantly it is often dissed on by computer newbies and gamers who think that is is an inferior operating system. There aren't many games for it, hence the reason computer gamers dislike it. And lazy bums don't like it because you actually have to do some work to install something. Or even read a readme file god-forbid! Newbies hate it because it helps eliminate 'clicky-clicky-clicky', the repetitive disease most windows users suffer (which is also apparantly addictive). Linux machines take up a very good portion of all network servers, and due to their stability - companies that use these systems rarely suffer from downtime. Because of these features, Linux is perfect for both businesses and geeks alike. It is also much more cost effiecient, see below.

Price comparision:
Windoze XP - $100-200
Windoze 2000 Pro - $180
Windoze 2000 server - $900 +
Windoze 2000 Advanced server - $1200+
Linux box set with documentation and official CDs - $20 - $70
Linux (any distro) - Free download
